Custom Business Applications

Custom business application development for SMEs in India

A custom business application is software built around how your firm actually works, for the cases where Zoho, Odoo or an off-the-shelf tool does not fit: job tracking, quotation builders, inspection apps, field-staff apps, dealer portals. It is for owners and COOs of firms with roughly 10–500 staff who have tried the packaged options and bent their process to fit, or gave up. The expected result is one place where the work lives, that your staff will actually use, connected to Tally, WhatsApp and whatever else you keep. You own the code and the data. A first release typically costs ₹5–10 lakh ($6,000–12,000) and takes 6–8 weeks.

Who this is for

  • Manufacturers and contractors tracking jobs, materials and stages across WhatsApp groups and a whiteboard.
  • Firms whose quotations take hours because prices, GST, discounts and terms are looked up by hand each time.
  • Inspection, facility and service businesses that need checklists with photos, GPS and signatures from staff on site.
  • Distributors who want dealers to place orders and see their ledger without calling the office.
  • Owners who bought an ERP module or a Zoho Creator app and it is still only half used because it does not match the work.
  • UAE companies that need VAT-correct quotations and job tracking across Kerala and Dubai teams.

What we build

  • Job and work-order tracking: every job from enquiry to invoice, with stages, assigned staff, materials used and margin visible as it moves.
  • Quotation builders: your price rules, discount limits, GST or VAT, terms and formats built in, so a rep produces a correct quote in minutes and the owner approves exceptions.
  • Inspection and checklist apps: structured forms with photos, location, time and signature, working offline on site and syncing later.
  • Field-staff apps: attendance, task lists, expense capture and daily reports from a phone, designed for people who will not read a manual.
  • Dealer and customer portals: orders, order status, ledger balance and invoices, read from Tally or your ERP.
  • Approval and exception flows inside the app, with WhatsApp or email notifications so nothing waits in an inbox.
  • Integrations with Tally, Zoho, Google Workspace, WhatsApp and payment gateways, so the app is not another island.

Typical scope

A first release covers one workflow for one team, built in a modern web stack (TypeScript, a Postgres database, hosted on a cloud account in your name) with a phone-friendly interface. We spend the first week watching the work, drawing the screens on paper with your staff, and cutting scope to what the first version must do. Then we build, test with real users, and go live. This is not a replacement for Tally or your accounts software, and it is not an ERP; it is the piece that is missing between your tools. It is also not the first thing to try: if Zoho Creator, Zoho Projects, an Odoo module or a ready-made field-service app fits with light setup, that is cheaper, faster and better supported, and we will say so in the free audit. Custom software is the answer when the packaged tools have been tried and the gap is real.

What you receive

  • A working application in production, on web and phone, hosted in your own cloud account.
  • Full source code in your own repository, with documentation and a build guide.
  • Your data in a standard database you own and can export at any time.
  • Admin and user guides in plain English with screenshots, and a training session for your staff.
  • A test record showing what was tested and what passed before go-live.
  • A fixed-price list of the next features, if you want to keep building.

Custom Business Applications: questions owners ask

How much does a custom business application cost?

A first release for one workflow typically costs ₹5–10 lakh ($6,000–12,000) and takes 6–8 weeks. Hosting is in your own cloud account and is usually a small monthly amount that depends on users and storage; we estimate it before build. Adding features after go-live is either fixed-price per feature or a retainer from ₹1 lakh/month ($1,200/month). If you did a Discovery Sprint, that fee is credited.

Do we need to replace Tally, Zoho or our ERP?

No. Tally stays for accounts and GST. The app handles the work that Tally was never built for, such as job stages, site checklists or quotations with your rules, and sends the final numbers to Tally. A study reported by Business Standard in October 2026 found only 21% of surveyed MSMEs deploy ERP or customised business software (https://www.business-standard.com/amp/economy/news/two-thirds-of-msmes-use-ai-but-only-21-deploy-business-software-study-126101301191_1.html). For most, the right move is a small app that fits, not a bigger system that does not.

Why not just use Zoho Creator, Odoo or a ready-made app?

Often you should, and we will say so. Zoho Creator and Odoo are good when your process is close to the standard and your data already sits in that ecosystem. A ready-made field-service or inspection app is cheaper if its forms match yours. Custom software makes sense when you have tried those and ended up changing your process to suit the tool, when you need deep links to Tally or WhatsApp, or when the tool's per-user fee grows faster than the value. The free audit covers this question first.

Who owns the code and the data?

You do, from day one. The code sits in a repository in your name, the database and hosting are in your cloud account, and you can export your data at any time in standard formats. A PwC India report (March 2026) names vendor lock-in among the main barriers to AI and software adoption for MSMEs (https://www.pwc.in/unlocking-the-ai-edge-for-msmes.html). We remove that barrier by never holding your code or data in our accounts.

What if Azerlia is not around in five years?

Your app keeps running, because nothing depends on us. The code, documentation and hosting are yours, built on a common stack that any competent developer in Kochi, Bengaluru or Dubai can pick up. We also leave a handover note that lists every account, every integration and how to rebuild from scratch. That is the test we design for.
