Management Dashboards

Management dashboards for SME owners: live sales, operations and finance from Tally, POS and Sheets

A management dashboard gives the owner one live screen, and one morning WhatsApp or email summary, showing sales, cash, receivables, stock, pending orders and staff numbers pulled straight from Tally, your POS, Google Sheets or ERP. It is for owners and COOs of firms with roughly 10–500 staff who today wait for someone to build the Monday Excel, or ask three people and get three answers. The expected result is that you see today's position today, spot a problem the day it starts, and stop paying staff to rebuild the same report. A pilot typically costs ₹3–6 lakh ($3,500–7,000) and takes 4–6 weeks.

Who this is for

  • Owners who get their numbers from a weekly Excel built by hand, and sometimes not even that.
  • Multi-branch retail and distribution firms that cannot compare branches or reps without a day of work.
  • Manufacturers and contractors who learn a job lost money only after it is finished.
  • Finance heads who want receivables ageing and cash position without opening Tally every morning.
  • Owners with a Kerala office and a UAE branch who need both in one view, in rupees and dirhams.

What we build

  • An owner's daily view: cash in bank, receivables by age, sales by branch, rep and product, gross margin, and stock that is not moving.
  • An operations view: orders by stage from enquiry to dispatch, jobs behind schedule, pending approvals, vehicle or machine use.
  • A people view: attendance, overtime, open positions and payroll cost, with WPS files for UAE staff where needed.
  • A data pipeline that reads Tally (via its export or ODBC connection), POS systems, Zoho, Google Sheets or your ERP on a schedule into one clean store.
  • A morning summary on WhatsApp or email with the five numbers you care about and anything that crossed a limit overnight.
  • Alerts when a number crosses a line you set: a customer over credit limit, a branch below target, stock below reorder level.
  • Drill-down so a manager can click from the total to the invoice, without asking accounts.

Typical scope

A pilot usually starts with the owner's daily view for one business or one branch, pulling from Tally plus one other system such as POS or Sheets. We agree the ten or so numbers that matter, build the pipeline, check every figure against Tally with your accountant, then add the morning summary. This is not a data-warehouse project and not a replacement for Tally's own reports; Tally stays the source, and the dashboard reads from it. If all you need is Tally's standard reports emailed on a schedule, Tally can do that itself and you do not need us. A dashboard earns its cost when numbers from more than one system must sit together, or when you want to see the position daily instead of after month-end.

What you receive

  • A live dashboard on Looker Studio, Metabase or Power BI, chosen for your budget and the tools you already pay for.
  • The data pipeline and a clean, documented data store that belongs to you.
  • A definitions sheet: how every number is calculated, so two people never argue about “sales” again.
  • The daily WhatsApp or email summary, set up and running.
  • Access for your team with the right views for owner, manager and accountant.
  • A short guide for keeping it running and adding a new number yourself.

Management Dashboards: questions owners ask

How much does a management dashboard cost?

A pilot typically costs ₹3–6 lakh ($3,500–7,000) and takes 4–6 weeks. Tool licences are separate and can be nil: Looker Studio is free, Metabase has an open-source edition you can self-host, and Power BI is charged per user by Microsoft. We pick the tool that fits what you already pay for. Keeping the dashboard updated as the business changes can be covered by a retainer from ₹1 lakh/month ($1,200/month), but many owners run it themselves after handover.

Do we need to replace Tally or our ERP?

No. The dashboard reads from Tally; it does not replace it. Tally remains the book of record, your CA keeps working as before, and GST filing does not change. The same is true for Zoho, Busy, Marg or an older ERP. The only thing that changes is that the numbers are now visible without opening the software or waiting for a report.

Our data entry is not perfect. Will the dashboard still be right?

It will be as right as your data, and it will show you where the data is wrong. That is often the first value: duplicate customers, items under two names, invoices without a branch. We check every number against Tally with your accountant before go-live and list the data fixes needed. A KPMG India survey cited by India SME Forum found only 1–18% of micro and small enterprises actively use analytics tools (https://indiasmeforum.org/digishaastra/assets/docs/Final-META-Report-Card-2025.pdf), and in our view messy data is a big part of why. A dashboard is how you start cleaning it.

Can we just use Zoho Analytics or Tally's built-in reports instead?

Sometimes, yes. If all your data is already inside Zoho, Zoho Analytics with its connectors may be enough. If you only need Tally's standard reports on a schedule, Tally can email them. A built dashboard is worth it when data comes from more than one system, when you need branch or rep comparisons Tally does not give, or when you want alerts and a daily summary. We say which applies in the free audit.

Who keeps it running after you leave?

You do, with the guide and the definitions sheet, or we do on a retainer. Everything runs in your own accounts, so nothing stops if we are not there. The pipeline checks itself each morning and messages a named person if a source did not update, so a stale number is never mistaken for a real one.
